London, UK, September 2, 2025- VIRTUS Data Centres has struck a major deal to lock in more green power for its fast-growing operations. The company has signed a three-party corporate power purchase agreement (CPPA) with Inspired PLC and the Lynn and Inner Dowsing (LID) offshore windfarms, securing 31 megawatts of renewable electricity.
That amounts to 16% of the total generation from the windfarms, which sit five kilometres off the coast of Skegness, Lincolnshire.
The LID windfarms have been turning North Sea winds into clean power since 2009. With 54 Siemens turbines and a maximum output of 194 megawatts, they have long been a staple of the UK’s renewable energy mix.
Now, part of that output will be directly tied to the data centres that keep London’s digital economy running.
For VIRTUS, the deal reinforces a track record of clean energy leadership. The company has been sourcing 100% renewable electricity for more than a decade. But this agreement goes further by linking its power supply directly to a specific project, rather than relying on generic market contracts. That means not just green credentials, but real traceability.
Helen Kinsman, SVP Commercial and Regulatory Affairs at VIRTUS, said, “As an energy-intensive user, we know it’s our responsibility to minimise the environmental impact from all our data centre facilities. Hence, since going live with our first site in 2011, we have been procuring power from 100% renewable sources. We are committed to delivering reliable, resilient and responsible digital infrastructure to our customers and operate the gold standard in sustainable data centres in the UK and Europe.”
Inspired PLC acted as the bridge that made it happen, guiding VIRTUS through the complex negotiations and matching the company’s energy demand with the offshore windfarm’s supply.
David Cockshott, Chief Commercial Officer at Inspired, said, “Inspired has been proud to partner with VIRTUS as their dedicated energy consultant. We are excited to continue supporting their sustainable journey and to commence this tri-party agreement, which allows renewable power to flow directly to their data centres.”
VIRTUS, jointly owned by STT GDC and Macquarie Asset Management, runs 11 data centres across four London campuses. Together they provide 178 megawatts of capacity across 77,000 square metres, serving as one of the backbone providers of the UK’s cloud and AI economy.
With data demand climbing, the ability to secure reliable, renewable energy is becoming as critical as the servers inside.
For Macquarie, which also manages the LID windfarms, the agreement neatly connects its renewable energy portfolio with its digital infrastructure investments. And for Inspired, it underscores the growing role of energy advisors in making corporate net-zero ambitions achievable.
By wiring its future to the wind, VIRTUS is sending a clear message: the data centres of tomorrow must run on clean, predictable, and traceable energy today.
