New Delhi, India - April 20, 2026 - Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced a collaboration with SHI India to enable artificial intelligence infrastructure development under the Government of India’s IndiaAI Mission.

The partnership is aimed at supporting the creation of native AI models by providing access to advanced cloud-based tools and computing resources. The initiative is designed to make AI capabilities more widely available to government agencies, startups, enterprises, academic institutions, and research organizations across the country.

As part of the collaboration, SHI India, an AWS Partner Network member, will deliver AI infrastructure and services built on AWS technologies. These include platforms such as Amazon SageMaker, which allow organizations to build, train, and deploy machine learning models without requiring extensive in-house infrastructure.

The initiative aligns with the broader goals of the IndiaAI Mission, a national program focused on building a scalable and sovereign AI ecosystem through shared compute infrastructure, datasets, and innovation platforms. By leveraging AWS’s cloud capabilities, the collaboration seeks to lower barriers to entry for AI development and accelerate adoption across multiple sectors.

Executives from the companies emphasized that democratizing access to AI infrastructure is critical to fostering innovation at scale. By enabling organizations to access high-performance computing resources on demand, the partnership aims to reduce complexity and cost associated with developing large-scale AI models.

The collaboration also reflects a growing trend of public-private partnerships in AI infrastructure development, where global cloud providers are working with local partners to support national digital strategies. In India, such initiatives are becoming increasingly important as the country seeks to expand its domestic AI capabilities while reducing reliance on external technologies.

Industry observers note that access to scalable infrastructure remains one of the biggest challenges in AI development, particularly for startups and research institutions. By integrating cloud-based tools with localized delivery and support, the AWS–SHI India collaboration is positioned to accelerate the development of AI applications tailored to India’s linguistic, economic, and regulatory environment.

The move underscores the increasing importance of cloud platforms in enabling next-generation AI ecosystems, as countries invest in building resilient, inclusive, and locally relevant digital infrastructure.

With this partnership, AWS and SHI India are contributing to the expansion of India’s AI capabilities, supporting the development of a more accessible and scalable innovation ecosystem aligned with national priorities.
