Visakhapatnam, India - April 28, 2026 - Google has officially broken ground on its landmark India AI Hub in Visakhapatnam, marking the start of construction on one of the largest AI data center and digital infrastructure projects in the country.
The development represents a USD 15 billion investment and is positioned as Google’s largest commitment to India’s digital ecosystem to date. The project is being built in partnership with AdaniConneX and Nxtra by Airtel, forming a collaborative effort to deliver hyperscale infrastructure at scale.
The AI hub is designed as a gigawatt-scale ecosystem, integrating multiple data center campuses along with supporting power and connectivity infrastructure. The facility will enable high-performance computing, cloud services, and advanced artificial intelligence workloads, supporting enterprises, startups, and public sector initiatives.
The groundbreaking marks a major milestone in Google’s broader plan to invest in AI infrastructure across India between 2026 and 2030. The initiative aims to establish a comprehensive digital backbone capable of handling large-scale data processing and next-generation applications.
Located in Andhra Pradesh, the project is expected to strengthen Visakhapatnam’s position as a key technology and data center hub in Asia. Government officials highlighted that the development aligns with national ambitions to expand digital infrastructure and position India as a global leader in artificial intelligence and advanced computing.
The AI hub will also incorporate significant investments in energy and sustainability. Plans include the development of new transmission infrastructure, clean energy integration, and energy storage systems to support the facility’s large-scale operations while aligning with India’s renewable energy goals.
Executives noted that the project is intended to create a broader industrial ecosystem, combining data centers, power systems, and connectivity networks into a unified platform. This integrated approach is designed to accelerate innovation and improve access to AI capabilities across industries.
The initiative reflects a growing trend among hyperscale technology companies to invest in large, integrated infrastructure ecosystems to meet surging demand for AI and cloud services. As compute requirements increase, projects of this scale are becoming critical to supporting long-term digital transformation.
With construction now underway, the Visakhapatnam AI Hub is expected to play a central role in shaping India’s next phase of digital growth, while reinforcing Google’s long-term commitment to expanding its global data center and AI infrastructure footprint.
