Mexico City, Mexico - March 09, 2026 - KIO Data Centers has begun construction of a new 4-megawatt data center, MEX8, in Mexico City, expanding its footprint in one of Latin America’s fastest-growing digital infrastructure markets.
The facility is designed to strengthen the capital’s digital infrastructure ecosystem by increasing local capacity, connectivity, proximity, and operational resilience for enterprises and technology platforms operating in the region. The announcement was made as construction officially commenced on the new facility, which will be built to meet international data center standards while emphasizing operational efficiency and reliability.
According to the company, the MEX8 data center will support growing demand from enterprises seeking metro-proximate infrastructure to support cloud services, digital platforms, and mission-critical workloads within Mexico’s largest business hub.
The project also drew support from local authorities. During the groundbreaking announcement, officials from the Mexico City government, including representatives from the city’s economic development department, highlighted the importance of digital infrastructure investments in strengthening the region’s technology ecosystem and supporting broader economic development.
KIO Networks, which operates the KIO Data Centers platform, is among the largest digital infrastructure providers in Latin America, offering colocation, connectivity, and mission-critical IT infrastructure services across multiple countries. The company operates data centers in markets including Mexico, Guatemala, Panama, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic, serving enterprise and cloud customers across the region.
The new Mexico City development follows a series of capacity expansions by the company aimed at strengthening Mexico’s position as a regional data center hub. In recent years, KIO has expanded its presence in the Querétaro data center corridor, one of the country’s largest digital infrastructure clusters, where hyperscale and enterprise deployments continue to accelerate.
Mexico’s data center sector has seen rising investment driven by cloud adoption, AI workloads, and nearshoring trends as companies relocate manufacturing and digital operations closer to North American markets. These dynamics are increasing demand for low-latency infrastructure near major metropolitan and commercial centers, particularly in Mexico City.
With the launch of MEX8, KIO aims to further support enterprise digital transformation and strengthen the city’s role as a key node in Latin America’s expanding digital infrastructure landscape.
