Uber Expands India Infrastructure Footprint Through Adani Data Center Partnership

Ahmedabad, India - May 14, 2026 - Uber is partnering with the Adani Group to establish its first data center in India, marking a major expansion of the company’s digital infrastructure strategy in one of its fastest-growing global markets. The facility is expected to become operational later this year and will support Uber’s global technology operations from India.

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi announced the initiative following a meeting with Gautam Adani in Ahmedabad, describing India as an increasingly important innovation and engineering hub for the company. According to Khosrowshahi, the new infrastructure will help Uber “test and deploy” technology at scale while strengthening the company’s ability to build products “from India, for the world.”

The partnership significantly expands Uber’s technology footprint in India beyond mobility services and engineering operations. By localizing core computing infrastructure inside the country, Uber is expected to improve platform responsiveness, reduce latency for real-time ride matching and routing systems, and strengthen operational resilience during periods of peak demand.

The development also aligns with broader trends around data localization and sovereign digital infrastructure in India, where regulators and enterprises are increasingly emphasizing domestic data storage and processing capabilities for critical digital platforms. Industry analysts view localized infrastructure as becoming increasingly important for AI-enabled consumer applications that rely on large-scale real-time data processing.

For the Adani Group, the agreement further strengthens its position within India’s rapidly expanding data center market through AdaniConneX, the conglomerate’s joint venture with EdgeConneX focused on hyperscale and AI infrastructure development. The platform has been aggressively expanding across India with projects spanning Chennai, Navi Mumbai, Hyderabad, Noida, Visakhapatnam, and Kolkata.

The Uber partnership follows AdaniConneX’s broader push into AI infrastructure. Earlier this year, the company partnered with Google Cloud and Airtel on a planned AI data center campus in Visakhapatnam that is expected to support large-scale AI compute workloads and renewable-powered infrastructure.

India has rapidly emerged as one of the world’s fastest-growing data center markets, driven by AI adoption, cloud expansion, digital payments growth, and government-backed data sovereignty initiatives. Global hyperscalers, telecom providers, and infrastructure operators have collectively announced billions of dollars in new investments across the country over the past two years.

Industry observers also view the Uber-Adani partnership as part of a larger shift in which global digital platforms are increasingly deploying localized infrastructure to support AI-driven applications, real-time analytics, and regional compliance requirements. Mobility platforms like Uber rely heavily on continuous high-volume data processing for route optimization, pricing algorithms, safety systems, and demand forecasting.

The companies have not yet disclosed the location, power capacity, or investment size of the new facility. However, reports indicate the data center will be integrated into Adani’s broader digital infrastructure ecosystem and could support future AI and cloud-based services tied to Uber’s global platform operations.
